Government College Sarkaghat

The government of the state of Himachal Pradesh established a multi-faculty co-educational institute in 1985 in Mandi that was named as the Government College Sarkaghat. The college is situated in a sprawling and lush green land of almost 20 acres on the outskirts of Sarkaghat that is situated at a distance of about 60 kms. from the town of Mandi. The campus of Government College Sarkaghat is located in the rural areas between the Chandrakhri Hill Range in the North-West and the Dewabrat Hill Range in the East. The College is recognized by University Grants Commission u/s 2(f) and 12(B) in 1988. The college premises provide an encouraging environment to the students for sharing their knowledge and experience with each other. The college management believes in educating the youth irrespective of their gender that is revealed by the healthy ratio of male/female students in UG as well as PG programs.

The college provides the well-qualified faculty strength of 23 permanent and 7 temporary teachers. Apart from the teaching staff, there are 14 administrative members and 8 technical members. There are 15 teaching departments in the demanding subjects like Mathematics, Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, English, Economics, Geography, History, Hindi, Music (Instrumental and Vocal), Political Science, Public Administration, Sanskrit and Commerce.

The unit cost of education is Rs. 4969 (Including Salary) and Rs. 996 (Excluding Salary). The admission criteria are as per the Government and university rules and regulations. The most important thing is that the college does not accept any kinds of donations. There are four academic courses offered by the college out of which three courses are for undergraduates and one is for postgraduate students.

The three U.G. programs are in the Faculty of Science, Arts and Commerce and one P.G. program in the Faculty of Arts. There are 3 years degree courses like B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com and 2 years Masters Degree in Economics. The college offers 26 options for the course in B.A. and options of Medical and Non-Medical combinations are offered in B.Sc. in case of the Masters Degree, 2 specializations are offered in Economics.

Government Polytechnic Sundernagar

Vallabh Government College

vallabh college mandiVallabh Government College is known to be the first government college that was established in the hilly areas of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. This college was established long time back in 1948 and was named after the first home minister of independent India, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. He was more known as the ‘Iron Man of India’. The college is situated in the east of the Mandi town. This town is gateway to the Himalayas and to the different tourst places, like Kullu and Manali.

The total area covers a land of about 08 acres and is surrounded by the beautiful green playgrounds. If you want to have the panoramic view of the town then the campus of Vallabh Government College can satisfy your need. Mandi is regarded as an important district as well as the major centre for education in Himachal Pradesh. Earlier the college was affiliated with Punjab University, Chandigarh but in the year 1971, it got registered under the Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.

Vallabh Government College is recognised by the UGC under 2(f) and 12B since February 1977. The college is an urban Government funded college. Apart from this, the college also runs two courses that are self-financed. The college follows a motto which says, 'Shastre Shastre Cha Kaushlam' which means that practice alone leads to learning.
